I am normally asked that question 3-4 times a day while doing liposuction consultations. So where does the line get drawn between liposuction and tummy tuck?
Liposuction is preferred if there is fat in the affected area… skin quality must be good, without sagging or “rolls”, and it can serve large or small areas.
Tummy tuck is indicated when the skin quality is poor, stretch marks are present, underlying hernias from the abdominal wall being stretched out too much as a result of weight gain and weight loss or there have been multiple cesarian sections or multiple abdominal surgeries(scars). Tummy tuck is best for large areas of fat and skin tightening since the excess skin is removed, but down time is about a week to 10 days.
Skin tightening occurs with liposuction because there is an inflammatory reaction that occurs below the skin causing it to contract, but this skin tightening is limited to a point.
The best way to find out which technique is right for you is to come in for a consultation with Dr Romita or Dr Macri, where risks and benefits can be assessed and a customized treatment plan can be established specifically for you. call 201-358-2922 or visit www.macrimd.com
